About Himalayan Gaddi Kingdom Trek

Himalayan Gaddi Kingdom Trek : 10 Nights/11 Days Destinations: Delhi, Dharmshala, Trek and Amritsar The Himalayan Gaddi Kingdom Trek begins in Dharamshala, with a visit to the temple of H.H. Dalai Lama who is a spiritual head of the Tibetans who live here in exile. The Trek takes you through several Gaddi Tribal villages. Gaddi, is the local name for nomadic shepherd tribes, who migrate from one place to the other with their flock of sheep and goats. The first three nights are spent camping close to these Gaddi villages, and then the last night is spent at the base of the mountain, which is famous for it’s superb views of the Dhauladhar peaks on one side, and the Himalayan valleys on the other.

Day 1Arrive Delhi

You will be met on your arrival at Delhi International Airport and transfer to Hotel The Suryaa. Delhi, India's capital, and a city of over 15 million inhabitants, is where your holiday in India begins. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 2Overnight Train Delhi to Pathankot

Breakfast at hotel followed by a full day sightseeing tour of Old and New Delhi visiting - The Red Fort, Friday Mosque - Jama Masjid, The silver street of Chandni Chowk, Raj Ghat, The Hindu temple - Birla Mandir, The India Gat, The Rashtrapati Bhawan - President's House, The tomb of Emperor Humayun, Qutab Minar and The Bahai Temple. Later transfer to Delhi railway station to board overnight train for Pathankot. Overnight onboard train.

Day 3Arrive Pathankot and drive Pathankot-Dharamshala (80 kms/2 hrs)

Arrive Pathankot railway station. Met on arrival and transfer to Hotel 8 Auspicious Him View or Similar (standard check in time at the hotel is 1200 noon). Afternoon go for a Kora walk - a holy walk around the temple and residency of His Holiness Dalai Lama. During the walk you see many Tibetan people chanting holy hymns while they are moving on the holy trail. The walk is followed by a visit to the temple of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Overnight in Dharamshala.

Day 4In Dharamsala

Drive to Naddi village from where you go for a short acclimatization walk from Naddi to Bhagsu Nag Village. Later drive to Lower Dharamsala to visit Norbulingka ( a Tibetan centre for learning and preserving traditional Tibetan art and craft). Later drive through the tea gardens and visit St. John's church. Afternoon free to explore McLeod Ganj and it's surroundings. Overnight in Dharamshala

Day 5McLeod Ganj - Boa village - Kanol Village

Drive to the valley for two hours to reach Boa village, the starting point of the Himalayan Gaddi trek. Bao village is situated on the bank of the river. Steep ascent for about two hours takes you to Batuni village where you visit a local family house for refreshments and to witness the lifestyle of the inhabitants of the Dhauladhar area. From Batuni, walk for another hour to reach a scenic lunch spot. After lunch walk through lush green fields to Kanol village where you camp for overnight stay. Overnight at Camp (1500 m).

Day 6Kanol Village to Kareri Village (approx 13 kms / 5 - 6 hrs trekking)

Begin a gradual uphill walk from Kanol. It is uphill for about three hours and then you descend down to Harnala, where you camp next to Kareri village. Enroute you will be crossing several tribal villages. Overnight at Camp (1800 m)

Day 7Kareri Village to Bahl Village (approx 13 kms / 5 - 6 hrs trekking)

Leave the Kareri Village this morning, and walk a little up and downhill for about 2 hours to get to the Rawa village , in a beautiful setting on the bank of the Rawa river, again coming across several tribal village enroute. From Rawa, it is steep ascent through the forest for about two hours to Bahl village, where you will camp for overnight stay near a small stream next to the village. The area is known as a paradise for bird watchers interested in seeing and photographing Himalayan birds. Overnight at Camp (2000 m)

Day 8Bahl Village to Triund (approx 10 kms / 5 hrs trekking)

You say goodbye to the villages this morning, and begin your walk upto Triund, which is an area with almost no human habitation. Today’s trek is a steep ascent through mixed forest of oak, rhododendron and cedar trees , ending at Triund, which is an alpine meadow situated atop a ridge. Camp at Triund for the night. Triund is famous for the superb views of the snowclad Dhauladhar mountains on one side and the valley on the other. Overnight at Camp (2875 m).

Day 9Triund - Bhagsu Nag - McLeod Ganj, (approx. 4 hrs trekking)

Wake up early this morning, for views of the snowclad Dhauladhar mountains, after which you walk downhill for about 4 hours towards Bhagsu Nag, the village where your Himalayan Gaddi trek ends. You will be picked up here and driven back to the McLeod Ganj area. On arrival check in Hotel 8 Auspicious Him View or Similar. Overnight in Dharamshala.

Day 10Dharamshala - Amritsar (200 kms/ 5 hrs drive)

After breakfast drive to Amritsar, the holy city of Golden Temple. On arrival check in at Hotel Country Inn & Suites or Similar Later this afternoon, visit the Wagha Border - the international border between India and Pakistan where the pomp and pageantry of the Beating Retreat & Change of Guard ceremonies make for a most charming spectacle. Overnight in Amritsar..

Day 11Amritsar-Delhi and Depart

Breakfast at the hotel followed by a sight-seeing tour of Amritsar visiting The Golden Temple and the Jallian Wala Bagh. Later transfer to Amritsar airport in time to board flight for Delhi. Arrive Delhi and connect further flight for onward destination.
