The Deccan Odyssey journey will start from Mumbai, assemble at the Chhatrapati Shivaji
Terminus by early evening at 1530 hours. Complete the check-in formalities followed by a
traditional Indian welcome and a refreshing drink. Board the train and you are guided to your
cabins. As you settle in, the Deccan Odyssey begins its journey from Mumbai to the first stop
of the tour- Aurangabad.
Dinner is scheduled at the lavish restaurants onboard, followed by overnight stay.
Today morning, the Deccan Odyssey arrives at Aurangabad. Enjoy a delicious breakfast
onboard. Spend time in leisure or choose to enjoy a relaxing massage at a spa.
Later, head out to explore the last of majestic Mughal cities, named after the last Great
Mughal Aurangzeb. While the city has its own charms, the major reputation is for serving as
the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ellora Caves. Witness the remains of the
Mughal era as you explore the Daulatabad Fort, Bibi-ka-Maqbara and the city's 52 gates, each
with its own history.
Have an early lunch back on the train and again disembark for a scenic drive to get to the
Ellora Caves. The world heritage site is among the finest cave-temple architecture in the
world, carved into the side of a basaltic hill 30 km from the city. Encompassing 34 rock-cut
shrines of Buddhist, Jain and Hindu faith, the caves date between the years from the 4th to
5th century AD. The most remarkable sight of Ellora is the Kailash Temple, meant to be a
replica of Shiva's celestial abode on Mt. Kailash.
Next, explore the lofty Daulatabad fort. Inhabited since 100 BCE, the fortress houses the
remains of Buddhist caves similar to those at Ajanta and Ellora.
Return to the Deccan Od`yssey to freshen up before you proced for dinner at the city hotel.
Overnight stay onboard.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast onboard before heading out to explore the city of Aurangabad.
Spend the morning visiting Bibi-ka-Maqbara, another mausoleum of a Mughal Emperor's wife
designed as a replica of the Taj Mahal at Agra. Called the 'Taj of the Deccan', it was intended to
rival the splendor of the Taj Mahal, but unfortunately is not magnificent as the Taj.
Next, visit a weaving facility that specialises in Himroo fabric. The Himroo fabric has an
interesting association with Aurangabad since the 14 th century. In fact it was the preferred
fabric of the royal courts. The weaving style comprise of Persian designs woven with gold and
silver threads. Mostly a replica of the Kum-Khwab fabric, even its name it’s adapted from the
word Hum-ruh, which means 'similar' in Persian.
After a well-spent morning return to the Deccan Odyssey for lunch on board. Rest of your
afternoon indulge in the recreational activities on board. Watch the beautiful scenery with its
ever changing colors as you pass through the hinterlands of Maharashtra. The train moves
towards Ramtek for a visit of the Pench National Park.
In the evening, enjoy a sundowner relaxing with delicious drinks while watching the scenic
views. Proceed for a mouth-watering followed by overnight stay on board Deccan Odyssey.
Wake up early in the morning, as the train pulls into Ramtek, for a rendezvous with nature and
wildlife at the Pench National Park. The wildlife sanctuary set in the heart of India gets its
name from the Pench River, blessing the land immensely with biodiversity. Said to be the
inspiration behind the ‘Jungle Book’ by the well-known author Rudyard Kipling, Pench is
among the best national parks in India. The terrain is defined by hills, valleys and the
occasional precipitous slope. With four different forest regions in one, the land is inhabited by
abundance of flora and fauna, especially tigers in healthy numbers, birdlife including migratory
ones, rich variety of aquatic life and more of nature’s blessings.
Post an exhilarating game drive, be back onboard the Deccan Odyssey for a leisurely brunch.
Get ready for a wildlife adventure yet again in the afternoon.
Back to the train as the train departs for Tadoba. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner followed by
overnight on board.
Start the day before sunrise to embark upon a wildlife adventure in the Tadoba Tiger Reserve.
The Deccan Odyssey stations at the Chandrapur station, deboard and begin the early morning
safari at the Land of Tigers.
The wildlife sanctuary has plenty of opportunities of close encounters with tigers, leopards,
sloth bears, gaurs (the Indian bison), various species of deer, various species of birds, and
other blessings of nature.
After an exciting morning, proceed to the Tiger Trails Lodge for a delicious breakfast. Later,
you can relax, view a documentary on wildlife or interact with our naturalist. Lunch too is
organized at the lodge. Post lunch, drive back to Chandrapur station to board the Deccan
Odyssey.
The evening is at your leisure. Sit back, unwind and enjoy cocktails, followed by a sumptuous
dinner and overnight stay as the train proceeds towards the next destination, Jalgaon.
Start the day with a leisurely breakfast on board. Disembark and drive to the Ajanta Caves, a
UNESCO World Heritage site.
A treasure of cave-temple architecture, Ajanta has 30 rock-hewn caves masterfully carved and
adorned with sculptures and paintings of religious art, depicting a fusion of Buddhist, Jain and
Hindu faith. After exploring Ajanta, return to the Deccan Odyssey for lunch.
While you savour the delicious food at the onboard restaurants, the luxury train proceeds
towards Nashik. Rest of the day is at leisure for you to relax and enjoy activities available on
board. Options include watching a movie or learning the rules of 'carrom' a popular Indian
board game or book a relaxing massage in our spa on board. Also, choose to relax with a
sundowner before dinner.
Overnight stay onboard.
This morning, the Deccan Odyssey arrives at Nashik. While believed to be a holy city along the
banks of the Godavari River the city is rapidly gaining the status of being the wine capital of
the country.
Post breakfast, disembark and spend the morning walking along the ghats of Godavari River.
Observe Hindu rituals being performed on the banks or just relax while watching the scenery.
Next, proceed with a drive to the Grover Zampa Vineyards for an exclusive tour. One of the
finest Indian wine producing facilities, here you can walk through vines laden with Chenin,
Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. Watch the entire process of the age old 'methode
traditionnelle' that goes behind the creating of best known brands of sparkling wines in India.
As instructed by the sommelier, acquaint your taste buds with white, red, rose and sparkling
wines. Also, experiment pairing them with your meal at the vineyards.
After a sumptuous lunch, back aboard the Deccan Odyssey. Rest of the day is at leisure. Dinner
and overnight stay onboard.
Start the day with breakfast. The Deccan odyssey has arrived at Mumbai, disembark at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Bid farewell as your tour through wild Maharashtra comes to an end.
